THE BIG CITIES HEALTH COALITION

Formed in 2002, the Big Cities Health Coalition (BCHC) has helped the leaders of America’s largest urban health departments exchange ideas and address issues unique to the health of the 42 million people they serve. The Coalition includes 17 of the largest urban areas in the United States and addresses a wide range of health issues, including nutrition and tobacco policy, bioterrorism preparedness, environmental challenges, school health, and infectious disease.

The mission of the Center for a Livable Future is to promote research and to develop and communicate information about the complex interrelationships among diet, food production, environment and human health, to advance an ecological perspective in reducing threats to the health of the public and to promote policies that protect health, the global environment and the ability to sustain life for future generations.
